Modernism Tour

Casa Milà
first apartment building in Barcelona to have a parking garage. These were the front doors that could fit a car.

fun fact: these chimneys were said to be inspiration for the stormtroopers in Starwars!

These arch's are something that Gaudi created by taking the inverse of the natural pull of gravity. In the photo on the right you can see chains hanging showing the natural pull of gravity and on the left you can see the arch's created from them!

Casa Amatller & Casa Batlló

Casa Batlló is based off a story of Saint George plunging a lance into the back of a dragon. You can see that the building its self looks like a dragon and even the balconies look like the skulls of its previous victims! The skull balconies are my favorite part of this building.

So, since being in Spain ive become such a Gaudi fan. All his architecture is just crazy amazing and I can't even imagine what type of personality he must of had to be able to dream up all these buildings and then actually create them! While on this modernism tour I got to tour the inside of Casa Milà and see Casa Amatller & Casa Batlló. Learning about Gaudi's style has been very intriguing. There are many little things that he has done in his architecture that show what kind of person he could have been. For instance, The windows at the top of the building are smaller than those at the bottom so all the rooms get equal amounts of light in them. He wanted his designs to give those living in his buildings the best possible experience. He also had door handles and chairs built specifically to fit the shape of a human to make the experience better. Im loving all theses different tours, the guides that my program, ISA, have provided us have been giving us great information about all the spots we visit!
